Lithuania

There is a one level system of self-government in Lithuania. The administrative territorial units are  the 10 higher-level administrative units or counties which are part of the State Government and 60 lower-level administrative units or municipalities.

The Lithuania county administration is a part of the central state administration. Counties do not enjoy power of self-government. The municipalities are independent self-governing authorities led by local authorities. Members of local government councils are elected for three year terms based on universal and equal suffrage.

All Lithuanian regions are part of the BSSSC network.
