First hybrid BSSSC Board Meeting under the West Pomerania Chairmanship in Szczecin!

BSSSC Board met on the second Board Meeting in 2022, first time in a hybrid mode since December. The meeting gathered nearly thirty people - representatives of member regions, partner organizations, and networks as well as the youth, both online and phisically in Szczecin.

BSSSC Board met on the Board Meeting in Szczecin and the first time phisically. The meeting gathered nearly thirty people - representatives of member regions, partner organizations, and networks as well as the youth.

 

Our Board Members met on the 7th June, and discussed various topics concerning cohesion-, culture-, and maritime policy, youth cooperation and so significant to all Baltic Sea regions - European issues as well as Ukraine-Russia situation.

On this occasion West Pomerania Region has invited special guest. Ukrainian Honorary Consul in Szczecin – Henryk Kołodziej and Chairman of the Union of Ukrainians in Poland – Jan Syrnyk who were invited to report on the approach taken by the region and the organizations they represent in helping Ukraine. The main purpose of the meeting was to debate the situation in Ukraine, how the regions are involved in providing aid, and what measures should still be introduced to help more efficiently.

It was also an occasion to talk about a topic related to the warfare genre which is "Removal of munition from the Baltic Sea" - the name of the presentation brought by Dr. Claus Böttcher - Managing Director with The German Programme on Underwater Munitions and an Environmental Engineer. 

In view of the current situation in Eastern Europe, where the Russian Federation is breaking the norms of law and the rules of the international order our Board Members, representatives of partner organizations, and networks as well as the BSSSC youth started this Board Meeting with a debate on the consequences of this situation for the regions of Russia associated with our organization.

The Board Meeting involved the presence of special guests – Mr Bernd Hemingway (Council of the Baltic Sea States) and Ms Lucille Ehrhart (Baltic Sea Commission CPMR) Thanks to them, BSSSC community could discuss and exchange ideas and plans for the future. 

 

The topics discussed covered a wide range of issues. From plans for the near future through activities to the youth, to the plans related to the Annual Conference 2022.
